Philadelphia, PA – August 10, 2023- Nine Philadelphia high school students learned to code, earned college credits and micro-scholarships thanks to a pilot program hosted by the Uncommon Individual Foundation(UIF).
Developed and delivered by UIF mentors, Introduction to Python is an intense summer workshop that teaches the fundamentals of programming. The 3-week workshop from July 10-July 27, made possible by UIF and grant funding from AmeriHealth Caritas, was offered at no cost to city-based high school juniors and seniors interested in pursuing a career in computer science or technology. Students who successfully completed the course are eligible to earn up to 3 college credits at 1,500 schools affiliated with the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS). UIF also offers college level courses in Entrepreneurship, Media, and Animation.
The summer workshop was held at Nerd Street’s Localhost gaming venue in Center City. Nerd Street is a national network of esports facilities and events dedicated to powering competitive opportunities for gamers.
